Paul Merriman's website has
some
great model portfolios available, but unless you want 100% equity or 60%
equity you need to do some arithmetic to adjust the allocation to what is
appropriate to your goals and your age.
I put together an excel spreadsheet to help with this allocation using
Vanguard funds since this is where I have most of my money. I may do the
same for his ETF portfolios to address the rest of my holdings.
To use the spreadsheet, you just need to fill out the total value of your
Vanguard portfolio that you wish to allocate (in F22) and then the desire
bond and the desired stock percentages in F23 and F24 respectively. The
spreadsheet will update and tell you precisely what to buy. Note that this
spreadsheet doesn't know about fund minimums which are generally $3000 at
Vanguard.
The initial transfer of funds is a bit of a challenge because money is
usually spread across multiple groupings of types of accounts.
(Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, Rollover IRA, taxable accts, etc)
Once the initial allocation is done, however, you can revisit your
holdings annually using this spreadsheet to bring everything in line.
